Hemp has been around in textile form since 8000 B.C. The first American flag was made of hemp, also the first pair of jeans made by Levi Strauss. George Washington and Thomas Jefferson were hemp farmers.
Hemp is a very fast growing crop, with a better fiber per acre yield than any other fiber. Hemp is also good to the land, not depleting the soil or requiring large amounts of chemicals.
Hemp makes a wonderful fabric that is easier to produce than cotton and is stronger and longer lasting. It is naturally antimicrobial, and insulative. It breathes, allowing the wearer to stay cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. The hemp fabric used in these gis is mixed with recycled polyester fibers for a more flowing, softer, smoother hand. It also gives greater durability and strength.
